City Slickers

Let's Get Down to Quizness

Thursday 15 April 2016 saw the return of the annual, almost traditional, Spearing Waite City Slickers Quiz.

This year the event was kindly sponsored by Bibby Financial Services, and took place at Steamin' Billy's Parcel Yard, where guests even had the opportunity to sample a pint or two of "Vardy's Volley", marking Leicester City's landmark season.

The quiz was once again hosted this year by Gary Pitt, who returns by popular demand (or so he has deluded himself). He was 'ably' assisted this year by Tom Charnley, who took great pride in writing a sports round so difficult that one time managed an impressive 1/15.

The evening's events were opened with a few brief words from Kelly Hamill of sponsors, Bibby Financial Services, and then it was on with the show.

Every year Gary concocts an increasingly ridiculous round, and this year he may have surpassed himself with this year's offering: musical introductions played on kazoos. If you have ever wondered what a thousand bees playing Smoke on the Water sounded like, wonder no more! (It sounds terrible).

After three hours of fun, food, drink and terrible jokes, it was time for prizes to be awarded. Parcel Yard kindly donated a cocktail making session for 4 for the best team name, which was won by 'the Gary Pitt fan club'. Coincidentally, it was Gary's responsibility to award that prize. As well as sponsoring, Bibby were also kind enough to donate a bottle of champagne for the business card raffle.

The quiz was a close run contest, ultimately won by 'Three's a Crowd', consisting of Craig Shevas of Rowleys, Andrew Edwards of RBS,  Furnley House's Neil Hayley, Dan Watchorn from Macintyre Hudson and Spearing Waite's very own James Sparks.

Our big thanks go to Bibby Financial Services for their generous sponsorship of the event.

City Slickers will return soon, shaking things up with its inaugural cocktail making evening, so watch this space.
